News for the week of 09-Jul-2012
by Carol Banks Weber
In the July 2nd-posted TV Source Magazine interview with reporter Omar Nobles, actress Lisa LoCicero (Olivia) raised executive producer Frank Valentini almost to the height of a god, for his transformative powers under pressure. Despite Valentini’s commendable (in her opinion) lockdown on spoiler leaks, LoCicero said, some of it’s still getting out, like the bit about salary cuts. Most of the rest of it’s “bullshit.” As for her own languishing storylines, LoCicero would like to see more friction, something, anything, to build on the promise of Steve and Olivia, pregnancy and volcano sacrifice notwithstanding. “I mean something has to give with her and Steve,” she said. “Either they have to take it to the next level and have a real relationship. That's been such an on-again, off-again thing between the writers. The relationship between Steve and Olivia has never really had a chance to do something or not do something. … Throw some kind of romantic issue into the relationship. Give them a good triangle that they can work through. That's always fun to play. I would love to you know, look for people on the canvas that are rogue and unattached. I think Olivia and Shawn could do some damage.”

Keep hitting refresh — like you do me — on Marlena De Lacroix’s soapy site. She’s updating a lot more frequently, and about subjects that go way over the typical soap media’s spoiler/spumor-obsessed head. Last week, she did a classy review of a classy biography of a classy soap leader, the late, great Y&R/B&B creator, Bill Bell.
Olivia’s done, the victim of a crime. About time. The only thing she’s good for is cable soft porn. Could you believe portrayer Lisa LoCicero talking up the scene where Olivia learns of Kate’s rape, like it was Oscar material? It wasn’t. It could’ve been, if the idiots in charge had filmed Kate telling Olivia she was brutally raped, and then allowing Olivia to react in real time to that, instead of skimming over to the rape talk after the fact, after a commercial break. Real brilliant, dumbasses.
