News for the week of 09-Jun-2008

by Carol Banks Weber

EYE ON SOAPS’ annual GH Fan Weekend For Dummies is up. The GH Fan Club Weekend will be held this year from July 10 to 14. There are a lot more events with individual actors, some are sold out (Megan Ward, Sarah Brown, Leslie Charleson), so this year’s a treat. Maurice isn’t doing his on Monday for once, it’s on Saturday.

Maurice Benard (Sonny) hasn’t always been on top in his illustrious career. There was a point early on when he feared he would lose his dream of acting because of his real-life bi-polar disorder. So afraid was he about this that he refused to divulge his disorder to anybody in the business. If he did, he thought TPTB would kick him out, not willing to put up with what they assumed were the meltdowns of his disorder. Once he did reveal his disorder, he was taken aback by the show of compassion and understanding. He even enjoyed a critically acclaimed storyline on GH when Sonny was revealed to suffer the same disorder. Ever since coming out, Benard maintains a life filled with compassion, understanding and truth for those suffering from the same disorder, and along the way has become a leader in the entertainment industry for erasing any stigmas attached. He is a proud spokesman for DBSA, Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance and helped recognize last month as National Mental Health month. “With me I have the best of all worlds. I am smart enough to stay on treatment and the medication. I have a family that's absolutely phenomenal. I exercise. I eat well. That's how I have managed to live with this disease.” –The ShowBuzz, “Reality Is The Method For GH’s Bernard” by Melissa Castellanos, June 3, 2008

Laura Wright (Carly) feels soap love scenes aren’t very sexy or realistic, not compared to what she and her husband John do. She said in real life, couples – at least them – don’t take the time to set the mood with candles and mood music in the background ala GH. And taking the time to take each other’s clothes off?! What’s that about?! “In 12 years of marriage, I don’t think I’ve ever taken off my husband’s shirt,” she said. “I think there’s something extremely sexy and hot about two people who can’t even wait to get their clothes off. Plus, I’ve got two kids. We’ve got to time it in the bathroom, like, ‘Meet me at 3:45.’ Soaps are not like that.” –Soap Opera Digest, June 10, 2008

Last year, shortly after returning to GH, Kin Shriner (Scott) ran into Susan Eisenberg while out strolling his neighborhood one day. She made a friendly overture to him and he thought she was this stranger. They kind of are and they kind of aren’t. Both of them did voice-overs as superheroes – he was Green Arrow and she’s Wonder Woman – on the show, Justice League Unlimited for the Cartoon Network. After striking up an acquaintance and conversation, the two tooled around as fast friends. He even escorted her on the GH set as a tour guide. Later this fall, they will attend a comic convention in Australia and New Zealand.

John Ingle (Edward) and his wife Grace-Lynne went off on a cruise, seeing Istanbul and the Greek Islands and after, spending time in London, embracing its theater life. This is where they went for their three-week vacation.

It’s for sure now. Josh Duhon (Logan) has been let go and will enjoy a dramatic, possibly noble exit storyline.

Jackie Debatin plays Sharon, a chick that has it in for Sam, June 12.

Eamonn Roche (Lloyd) bullies Spinelli June 10th. Roche isn’t related to Jerry’s Sebastian Roche.

Rosie Malek-Yonan (Farah, Leyla’s mom) will come on board this week to try and run her daughter’s life.

Nathan Anderson reprises Curtis, the biological father of Stacey’s baby girl, as of June 9. Curtis will have something to say that shakes Robin to the core.

GH: NS resumes its next series of stories next month, on SOAPnet every Tuesday night, 11 p.m.

Gossip for the week of 09-Jun-2008

TMZ.com was mean about Kelly Monaco’s (Sam) borrowing liberally from a local L.A. clothing store in its May 30th report. They said she appeared on the latest Dancing With The Stars finale in a pricy but loaned outfit from “Robertson shopping enclave Kitson.” Kitson’s has a habit of loaning out its outfits to stars as long as they return said outfits in two days intact. However, according to TMZ.com, Monaco didn’t do that. “We hear the disco diva's peeps arrived at the store in a panic five hours before the finale, desperate to find something for her to wear. Per their agreement, the store loaded them up with $6,500 worth of free dresses.
Little problem: TMZ has learned that her manager returned most -- but not all -- of the clothing a week late, and not only that, the dresses were ‘completely ruined.’ Apparently Kel wore another one of the dresses to party it up on her birthday in Vegas. Kitson says the dresses are ‘filthy and definitely not in sellable condition.’ Furthermore, they claim Monaco's people have refused to pay for the damaged dresses. A rep for Kelly did not return our call for comment.”

Some fans have read the TMZ report and seen the pictures of Monaco, and come to the conclusion that she’s the actress who’s pregnant in real life.

Rumor has it that everybody was warned about Josh Duhon’s (Logan) firing except Josh Duhon. Nobody in the cast gave him the head’s up because they allegedly found him unbearable and arrogant.

Vanessa Marcil has signed on for a brief summer GH return in order to help her good pal Ingo Rademacher (Jax) exit, since he scored a primetime gig? If this happens, Laura Wright’s Carly will subsequently go to Maurice Benard’s Sonny, with Megan Ward’s Kate on the outs. (Thus, bugging the hell out of Mo who supposedly re-signed his contract.)

Before Kate goes, she and Sonny will be engaged to be married. But then Diane sees Max with the engagement ring and assumes it’s she who will get married.

Coming up: Jason and Spinelli are stuck in the penthouse with Claudia because of a contagion. Claudia must take care of the guys, up to and including giving them sponge baths. At some point during the quarantine, Jason isn’t in his right mind and blurts out about his son with Elizabeth—right in front of Claudia. Claudia will not divulge Jason’s secret and will do everything in her power to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. Also, Elizabeth, Lucky and Sam will conspire to perpetuate fraud in the media and the eyes of the community (this means Jason too) by pretending there is a love triangle in the works. This is all to keep Liz and Jason’s baby Jake safe from mob-fire. Elizabeth will tell the press that her baby belongs to her and Lucky and that the two of them are reuniting as a family. Elizabeth and Sam will pretend to fight over Lucky. Jason, however, will have to step in when those three land in hot water. –read on Daytime Confidential, but taken from Soap Dish, June 6, 2008

Last week wasn’t a good week for the women of GH (minus Claudia). Every last one of them were depicted in a less-than flattering manner, from bulldozing bitch Lulu (go, Claudia, go!), trifling shrew Carly, to self-absorbed, pretentious, common Robin. Robin’s self-important, I am woman hear me roar video blog is torture to watch. I guffawed in her face when she suddenly realized how hurtful negative feedback was only when shesuffered from it. And the way she pronounces “wrong-guh” … my son used to do that when he was three.

Btw, I posted a little love note to Carly on my own Deep Dish Pieces blog, entitled “The C Word,” after I’d had enough of her two-faced hypocrisy. It was even chosen as a featured post by TV Guide.
