News for the week of 16-Feb-2015

by Carol Banks Weber

That’s Harper Barash, daughter of Kirsten Storms (Maxie) and Brandon Barash (Johnny), on-screen starting February 13 last Friday as the new baby Georgie. Maxie quickly put her baby down at the first sign of squirming in those initial scenes, because Harper — like most one-year-olds — prefers moving around on her own, and mommy knew it. Mommy also knew Harper would pull that earring right out if she didn’t put them away, LOL.

Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) is back to stay apparently, according to the latest from Celeb Dirty Laundry.

Maurice Benard (Sonny) never made the pre-nom list for this coming Daytime Emmys. His co-star and on-screen son Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) found that hard to swallow. In a February 9, 2015 interview with celebrity blogger Michael Fairman of On-Air On-Soaps, Zamprogna was kind enough to spend a bulk of his time praising the Emmy-winning veteran soap actor who’s taught him so much. “The last two years, I think Maurice has done top-notch work. He has really made a conscious decision to grow the Sonny character since I have gotten to GH. Maurice has grown Sonny into this other person, and by that I mean he’s developed this guy even more so,” Zamprogna said, thoughtfully. “He has gone from being an ego-maniacal, ruthless, gangster to a softer-gentler version of that. I thought he really deserved a nomination.”

Zamprogna did not submit himself for Emmy consideration, because he said he didn’t have enough good material. However, had the cut-off been the last few weeks, he would have plenty, starting with the reunion of father and son after the Haunted Star near-miss. Viewers experienced a surprisingly emotional reunion, especially from a moved Benard. Zamprogna agreed that the scenes worked him over emotionally too; but that such scenes with Benard always contain that element of intense connection — even if the connective tissue of rediscovery and evolving forgiveness never shows on-screen. “We seem to have one scene like that every six months, or so. I heard it was received well this past week. I remember doing it, and Mo was in that emotional place, and we kind of bring that out in each other. We have always played, since the beginning, the fact that this father and son love each other despite their differences, and despite the obstacles that are constantly going to be there, and it’s painful. The one thing that is nice is that the more scenes we do, they are more reconciliatory. There feels like there is more common ground between them, and a little more forgiveness on Dante’s part for who is father is.”

When Zamprogna has free time away from GH, he busies himself developing projects he’s really interested in, such as a movie treatment on Charles Ponzi.

Sam and Jason’s son, Danny, will experience another SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome) treatment with the recast of twin boys, 2-3.

Michael Easton (Silas) reportedly has re-signed with GH for another year.

Last Tuesday, executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati went back and forth in a coy little game of tease and show on Twitter for fans about an upcoming new hire. They finally revealed that Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee, AMC) will appear in “a killer new role.” Great. More cleverness for the room.

Helena implanted a chip into Jake/Jason’s gray matter, which has allowed her to control him with a 75 percent success rate. Dr. Patrick Drake will operate on Jake to remove the chip. Before he does, Jake remembers he’s Jason (“but is unable to tell anyone”), then goes under the knife, wakes up and forgets that he remembered. Spinelli feels a strange sense of déjà vu when, after meeting Jake, hears a familiar line. Also, Tracy recruits the services of the Jackal to dig into Luke Spencer’s past, which will elicit a re-enaction of the mysterious man’s childhood. TPTB have sent out feelers for actors to play younger versions of Luke, Bobbie, Patricia, and their parents. And it looks like the alcoholic, abusive father may have raped/impregnated his eldest daughter. “In the audition scripts, father and his son are in a confrontation about the past, Patricia is taken to the hospital by her mother due to dizziness and her father finds out (speculation: was Patricia pregnant and if so, by who...daddy?), Patricia vows to protect her siblings after her mother has died.” The story could be Tony Geary/Luke Spencer’s End Game by April, as former co-stars Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) and Nathan Parsons (Ethan) return to help wrap up the planned swan song. All this, according to General Hospital Happenings’ February 8th Rumorville.

Olivia next week reveals to Ned that she’s pregnant with Julian’s child, but swears Ned to secrecy. She also prevails upon Ned to act like he knocked her up, so Julian is none the wiser. Also, Michael Easton (Silas) signed on for another year, with a promise that he’ll share more scenes with Kelly Monaco (Sam); and then May brings on major cast cuts. All this, according to Trixie via DD, c/o SoapZone GH board.

What if Michael Easton’s character Silas returns to Ava for another love story, though?

Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee, AMC), who is rumored to join GH but not on a contract yet, could play a character for Ric’s End Game.
