News for the week of 17-Sep-2012

by Carol Banks Weber

John Ingle (Edward) has passed away at age 84, September 16. Those whose lives he touched immediately went to Twitter to share their sorrow and praise, including Billy Warlock (ex-A.J.), executive producer Frank Valentini--responsible for bringing Ingle back last week in that memorable hospital scene, Maurice Benard (Sonny), and Lisa LoCicero (Olivia), among many many others.

If you asked Maurice Benard (Sonny) before the cancellation scepter, he might’ve had a huge problem with the influx of stars from another soap onto his. Ego man, by his own admission. But now, he’s all for it. Here’s what he told’s Abby West [September 10, 2012]: “It just adds spice to life. To me, if the show’s better, that’s what matters.” This, due in large part to the new regime from OLTL. Benard lavished more praise on head writer Ron Carlivati and executive producer Frank Valentini as guys who know what they’re doing to keep the viewers glued to their TV sets. While enjoying his ensemble time on GH, Benard does have a few wishes, including lightening up his dark character more—especially with lady love Kate. “I would like him to be with Kate [played by Kelly Sullivan] and happy, but not complacent. With her and I, it’s never going to be boring because Kate’s crazy. Sonny’s crazy. Crazy people put together, it’s nice.”

Kirsten Storms (Maxie) delighted fans on Twitter with her short, sometimes sweet, always to the point, answers in a live September 14th GH chat. She loved on every cast member fans asked her take on—most asked type of question was “What is it like …?”—from Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Julie Marie Berman (Lulu), to Kelly Sullivan (Kate), and Jane Elliot (Tracy). Because a part of GH that day was preempted, Storms tweeted she’d do it again next (this) week. Here’s a sample of her tweets: “Maxie NEEDS sense first...#askGH RT @BluEyesROrton: Maxie needs to put some sense into Liz…. She’s an insanely smart woman...and very funny. RT @RhondaRoo67: @teenystweeting How much fun is it working with Jane Elliott?... Good question!! The crew probably. RT @AshleeDye: Who have you learned the most from while working at GH?... I’m just happy to be remembered :) RT @Christine616: how do u feel about the fan's reactions to you being back?”

Kelly Monaco (Sam) was expecting a bit of a break on GH while she films Dancing With The All Stars, premiering September 24th. But because of Steve Burton (Jason) shortly leaving the show to retire, she’ll be even more frontburner than usual, if that’s possible. She’s dreading the goodbye. After all, she and Burton have been an on-screen pair for a long time. “Man, I haven’t even been able to cross that bridge yet. I don’t like goodbyes. I’d like to think that he’s just gonna take a little vacation and come back. I know it might be wishful thinking,” the actress told Jolie Lash on Access Hollywood, September 15.

ABC Soaps in Depth’s staff reached Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda) about returning to GH—and she didn’t say no! In the September 17, 2012 issue, she said she’s open to it and excited about the new regime. “There's everything unresolved between Sonny and Brenda, which is the best. … So whatever is best for the show, I'm in! If that would mean Brenda's there, I'm in. If that would mean Brenda's not in, I'm there.”

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire game show host Meredith Vieira previewed a GH special, featuring the stars testing their knowledge. In return, she’ll be back on the soap playing, who knows, for the 50th anniversary show. The last time she was on GH, 10 years back, she played a whorehouse madam.
