News for the week of 18-Jan-2010

by Carol Banks Weber

Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth) is pregnant with her third child. She and husband Michael Saucedo (ex-Juan) already have Ethan, eight, and Ella, six. News of her pregnancy spread like wildfire last week.

Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) tried to make sense of his character’s behavior next week for viewers, following the Nikolas and Elizabeth reveal. Instead of confronting the cheating couple, Lucky merely backs out and attacks his own place of residence. As Lucky, Jackson said he put it into his head that the guy’s so angry and confused and shocked that he doesn’t know what to do with his swirling emotions, so this is the first thing that comes out. “He's been putting his heart and soul on the line with Elizabeth and believing – in some ways against his better judgment – that everything is going to work out. … I don’t think it's really pointed at specific objects or things that have symbolic meanings as much as the house in general. You know, his parents' marriage fell apart there, and now his own. More than once. This is the final blow. It's not really thought through. It's pretty irrational behavior.” –Soap Opera Weekly

It was weird but cool for Kirsten Storms (Maxie) to be recognized by Chikezie Eze (ex-K.Z., Jake’s singing bartender, American Idol finalist) outside of her soap origins. Way outside. He knew her from her children’s show, the Disney Zenon chronicles, “… and it reminds me of how long ago it was when I did them [the Disney movies], because when he first saw them he had to be like 14. That’s how old I was. [Soap Opera Digest, January 12, 2010]”

Constance Towers (Helena) makes her way back soon, in time for February Sweeps.

Btw, get out of your Soap Zone for a moment to donate whatever you can to the Haiti Earthquake effort. Check Twitterfor other ways to help.

Have the GH writers been glued to their TV sets whenever CBS’s primetime thriller Criminal Minds is on? Penelope Garcia is the computer geek with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) and reminded me an awful lot of Jason’s computer geek, Spinelli. In the living doll episode last Wednesday – spooky awesome – she kept babbling on about what she discovered in her computer search without getting to the location point. I’m a fan now.

Lisa Vultaggio (ex-Hannah) may join her husband Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) on GH in some capacity. The FBI gets heavily involved in Dominic’s undercover case. She is a detective in the FBI, so it stands to reason…

In retaliation for betrayal, Sonny aims his weapon pointblank into Dominic’s chest and fires away. Then, he’s told that the person he just (thinks he) blew away is his son Dante, with Olivia. Don’t worry, Dominic/Dante survives the bullet.

Kristina doesn’t just pull Ethan’s name out of thin air when she blames him for abusing her. She’s coaxed into it by Dr. Lisa Butthole, who just naturally assumes the perp is Ethan after witnessing him with Kristina a lot, then having to treat Kristina in the aftermath. But none of this may even happen. It’s still on the drawing board.

Lisa tries to mess with Patrick and Robin’s marriage by building up Robin’s friendship-only with Steven. Eventually, nothing can make a dent in Scrubs, not even Lisa and her reindeer games. Lisa turns to Sonny and he, to her. Lisa might be the person he has to marry to save his bacon.

Olivia and Johnny will welcome their own baby in the coming months. So might Elizabeth and Nikolas.
