News for the week of 19-Oct-2015

by Carol Banks Weber

Richard Burgi (Paul) shows he has a firm grasp of acting and his character as a recast in an October 13th interview with On-Air On-Soaps’ Michael Fairman. He’s as in the dark as anyone else is as to the extent of Paul’s treachery, but hopes to infuse some humanity into the big picture. He revealed a clue as to where his character is at in terms of possibly romance with some or all of the leading ladies — chem testing! “Yeah, I am kind of bouncing over the place. I think they are trying to test me, or stir up some storyline. I really don’t know where the story is heading. I’m involved with several of the women, and my on-screen son. I have also had scenes with Michael (Chad Duell). I think there is part of Paul that perhaps is trying to enroll Michael over to his world, or save him from Sonny. The whole Ava and Anna situation is also interesting to see where that is going.”

His fond observations about some co-stars, especially Maura West’s (Ava) angular acting approach and Jane Elliot’s (Tracy) ball-busting, really highlight this recent interview, displaying his depth of knowledge. Check what he had to say about Elliot: “Jane will knee you in the nuts with a smile on [her] face, or slap your back and walk out of the room cackling! (Laughs) But in the same token, she’s like the guy you want at a barroom brawl. Paul does care about Tracy. They had a child together. They have this great history, and water under the bridge that nourishes a very fertile, albeit dark, foundation.”

Burgi’s respect for his on-screen son, the charismatic Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon), was on proud display, as well. The veteran actor spoke to the heart and character of this character actor comparatively, one of the best soap newcomers around. “Robert is a real sweet guy, and a strong young man, and he cares about what he is doing, and wants to do good work,” Burgi mused. “I was not like that when I was his age; I was such a pompous ass. I studied with these great teachers, and I only looked at each scene, and did not think too far down the road, sort of like I do now. (Laughs) But, I never thought there was any longevity in anything in my life. I was always playing everything as if it was my last day at work. Robert just has a more practical approach to it, and he is a hard-worker. He cares about what he is doing and portraying a young man in a conflict of dislocated parents.”

Jeffrey Vincent Parise (Carlos) returns, probably this week, very much alive. Soap Opera Digest reported that the popular actor rejoined the cast September 29, calling the return “brief.”

Just sayin’… “Doin’ a shirtless Friday today instead #funkit #lazyday @dexterbrownfoto” Behold, Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon) in his underwear, ladies and gentlemen…

Jon Lindstrom (Kevin) returns for longer this week to tend to some tortured souls. Thank award-winning casting director Mark Teschner, who took Lindstrom by surprise with the call back, according to Soap Opera Digest reports.

Wally Kurth (Ned) returns for an October 19th episode, to interact primarily with Lisa LoCicero’s Olivia.

The role of Josslyn will now be played by a slightly older pre-teen, Eden McCoy taking over for Hannah Nordberg.

Miss Alabama USA 2014, Jesica Ahlberg, first appears as Darby on October 19. Darby will mix it up with Molly and T.J. as their pal. Ahlberg worked on movies — The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water, Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip — and TV — Necessary Roughness, Banshee.

Casting’s looking for an attractive, sexy leading man for a major role. Must be white and in his 30s — for November.

GHH is reporting that Billy Miller (Jake/Jason) has asked for several outs next year for pilot season, and story-wise, when Jake realizes who he is and that he’s marrying a liar, the wedding is called off just as Sam goes and elopes with Patrick. So Elizabeth is left at the altar, but Sam gets her new husband.

Might the new male casting call be for Patrick, if it’s true that Jason Thompson’s leaving soon?

What if Sabrina found Carlos washed up at the docks, nursed him back to health, made love, and is walking around pregnant with his baby? This could explain her dramatic reaction to news of his death, as well as her hesitancy in telling Michael.
