News for the week of 21-Oct-2013
by Carol Banks Weber
Kin Shriner (Scotty) started off his October 17th TV Guide interview with Michael Logan by responding to questions about his character’s imminent return as a D.A. candidate trying to clean up the town of mobsters and kicking Laura to the curb. Then the subject of Twitter came up—Shriner’s just joined, but probably not for long— and off the actor went, on a hilarious rant about the complete uselessness and Narcissism the rest of us have to live with on the daily.
“People talked me into this crazy tweeting business and I still don't understand what it's about. Why do people do it? My tweeting is ridiculous. I tweeted a picture of a shuffleboard court where I live in Ft. Lauderdale and said, ‘Mark my words, shuffleboard will return with a vengeance to South Florida.’ Then, two days later, I tweeted a picture of me playing shuffleboard and I wrote, ‘As I predicted.’ And I'm the only one playing shuffleboard! I'm making ridiculous tweetings and I don't know what I'm doing.
“… I tweeted a fish and wrote, ‘Who is the artist?’ It's like I'm doing a game show. I tweeted a picture the other day of me and Julie Pinson, the girl I worked with on Port Charles, and I said, ‘Which one of Scotty's old flames? Guess who?’ And people said, ‘Well, that's Julie Pinson.’ Huh? I don't get it. Is this fun for people? Let me assure you, this tweeting will go away very soon for me. I've only done it a month or so and I still don't understand why. I read different actors' tweets and they're just sort of blowing their own horns about something...or nothing. If you're just tweeting pictures of yourself — ‘Here I am on the beach today’ or ‘Here I am eating my lunch’ — who really wants to see that stuff? I see people tweeting their dinners. There's some weird stuff going on! Then there's that whole drama about how often you have to tweet to keep your followers from abandoning you. You have to keep them lathered up? It's too much stress.
“… Everybody is saying that this type of thing is very important, career-wise. My friend John Stamos gets cast on shows because he has a million followers. But if you're like me and don't have anything to promote, I don't think you should be promoting yourself playing shuffleboard. What's next for me...checkers? This can't end well.”
Tyler Christopher (Nikolas), the rather elusive, media-shy Roger Howarth (Franco; ex-Todd), Kelly Monaco (Sam), Jason Thompson (Patrick), and Sean Blakemore (Shawn) will all show up on ABC Daytime cooking talk show, The Chew, October 24.
Jason Thompson (Patrick) guest-co-hosts another ABC talking show, The View, October 23. It’s the show featuring The Middle’s cast.
John J. York (Mac) live-tweets with GH fans October 22. #askgh
Kimberly McCullough (Robin) kinda sorta already suspected something big was up with her friend and cast mate Kirsten Storms (Maxie). She had recurring, psychic dreams about Storms, so after about a month, ringed her up to see what was going on. That’s when Storms confided in McCullough about her miracle pregnancy and marriage to Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny), leaving the actress/director only the third person in on the top secret.

I don’t think GH beat Y&R in the Nielsons for first place overall, but the last remaining ABC soap opera make it to the top in the female 18-49 demo for the week of October 7, 2013, which hasn’t happened in over two and a half years. We Love Soaps’ Roger Newcomb has the rest in his October 18, 2013 report.
