News for the week of 25-Jan-2010

Kimberly McCullough (Robin) and Jason Thompson (Patrick) appeal to Dr. Oz in a January 29th show for a diagnosis on some health issues. McCullough was a little funny with her question, which was about her breasts growing in size during her menstruation, and “how can I keep them like that all the time?” While Thompson got serious with a family issue of intestinal/colon distress. “What causes it? Is it diet-related? Stress? What?”
Thompson re-signed another contract on GH because he felt he still had more story to tell through his character. He still can’t believe he’s lasted four years, and come through the other end a little more seasoned and confident. He sure is proud of his past, four-year work, that’s for sure. Closing in on the last contract, Thompson remarked that he felt a bit of anxiety, because staying on at the soap required some major staying power, lasting longer than his romantic relationships quite frankly. But he’s at a good place in his life. He is able to appreciate how green he was when he started, how far he’s come, and how lucky he is to work with talents like his friends McCullough, Steve Burton (Jason) and Maurice Benard (Sonny). During his GH talk, Thompson also singled out the Lisa recast as advantageous. “Brianna [Brown] came in and brought a real fire to the character. She made Patrick and Lisa look like they had a history.” Another pairing, however unexpected, has produced equally advantageous, mutually satisfying results—for Patrick and Mac. Thompson and Mac’s portrayer, John J. York, really reveled in and relish their chances to shine, whether it was reversing authoritative roles before Robin and Patrick’s wedding or goofing around doing karaoke at Jake’s.
Just how friendly has Thompson been with GH’s two top heavyhitters (Burton and Benard)? Friendly enough to warrant their time and sometimes, tokens of affection. Burton has been known to consider Thompson when out shopping for other people – he’ll drop a vest or an Edmonton Oilers license plate frame. Benard has taken Thompson under his wing, including the young man in boxing sessions, and just going out to dinner to hang out. “That means so much,” Thompson said, “whether you’re new or been here for a while. They take their job seriously but when there’s that moment for jokes, they’re two little boys running around, and that’s awesome to see.” –Soap Opera Digest, “Four Score” by Tom Stacy, January 19, 2010
Dan Auerbach. Anybody heard of him? Drew Garrett (Michael) has. And how. Auerbach’s pulling in rave reviews with his solo effort, Keep It Hid. Garrett reviewed the album from the guy who plays with the blues rock band, The Black Keys, as “soulful.” –Soap Opera Digest, January 19, 2010
Tina D’Marco (Graciella, Sonny’s housekeeper) surfaces all of a sudden on January 27th to drop the dime on Dominic to Jason.
Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla, Y&R) pumped up her upcoming novel, “Secrets Of A Soap Opera Diva,” with some publicity stunts, including tweeting some smackdowns of her former co-star Peter Bergman (Jack II; ex-Cliff, AMC). The novel itself will come out for all to read May 4. Go to Amazon.com to pre-order a copy. Get me one too.

Head writer Bob Guza Jr. meant for Elizabeth to suffer the way she has (through Lucky and Nikolas) so she can be ripe for the plucking with Jason. Guza—in all his infinite self-centeredness—is ignoring their previous time together (under the writers’ strike), and starting fresh by the end of summer.
Once Jason Thompson (Patrick) and Kimberly McCullough (Robin) approach the end of their contract, they’ll be done. Lisa may go belly up. Or not, in connection with the Cassadine/Spencer feud.
Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) may not last past his contract either. Probably of his own volition. I mean, if you were he, would you stick around?
Could Agent Rayner be Sam’s father? Could any of us not care enough?
Look for Olivia and Johnny to cuddle up, post-lovemaking, wearing nothing but Snuggies and Slankets, and thigh-high boots for her. Lisa LoCicero’s idea, as spoiled by Brandon Barash on Twitter last week.
Okay, did executive producer Jill Farren Phelps issue another hair-straightening edict—this time on Brianna Brown (Lisa)? Hey, I liked her hair all wild and free. I also like how her body pops on the TV screen. Seen her in a Maxim photo shoot? I have. Lordy, lordy.
