News for the week of 29-Oct-2012

by Carol Banks Weber

Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) booked herself a guest-starring gig on ABC primetime’s Castle—the same series as former OLTL star Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey). She’ll play the female version of War of the Roses, Samantha Voss, in an early January 2013 episode, “Significant Others.” She shot scenes October 26th. Also in the episode, Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco).

Grahn next guest-stars on The Chew November 8, 1 p.m., ET. This should be interesting, considering she was a harsh critic before, because of the cancellations of AMC and OLTL.

Melissa Archer (ex-Natalie, OLTL) was a good sport about not yet appearing on GH like Michael Easton (John McBain, OLTL) and some others get to. She pointed out the common sense wisdom of doing the job right, capitalizing on previous chemistry between Easton and his PC co-star, Kelly Monaco (Sam), and cheering them on from the sidelines. She spoke highly of the OLTL cross-overs to GH, as a fellow fan, in a recent Soap Opera Digest: “I thought it was neat and made a lot of sense for the specific characters they chose to take over there to drive story. I’m not one to get offended easily over storylines and jobs; it’s about the overall good of the project. Whatever they’re doing now seems to be working and that’s awesome because that’s what the genre needs. They’re not going to bring me on just to say, ‘Hey, we brought Natalie on!’ It wouldn’t make any sense. They have to take care of other things first. They have to utilize what they have. Michael and Kelly Monaco had amazing chemistry on Port Charles, so why not try to utilize that and go with that? If you had it once, you’re gonna have it again.” Make no mistake, however; if called upon to make a crossover as well, Archer seemed willing. She believes in her former boss, executive producer Frank Valentini, and all the participants on this surviving ABC soap.

Robin Christopher (Skye) and Wally Kurth (Ned) return for a special Edward Quartermaine memorial next month, to help honor the real-life passing of portrayer, veteran actor John Ingle. While there, Skye will engage with OLTL’s Todd, Blair, and Téa.

Sean Kanan (A.J.) will live-tweet with GH fans October 29, 2 p.m.-3 p.m. ET/11 a.m.-noon PT—during the airing of the soap. Use #GH in his Q&A. Wait, I think it’s 1 p.m.-2 p.m. on the West Coast.

Stuart Damon may bring back Alan for at least November’s Edward Q memorial.

Spoilers indicate Connie will (again) go too far to get what she wants (freedom from commitment—similarly to OLTL’s Tess). Maybe too far means, taking advantage of Sonny mentally after he stops taking his lithium for bi-polar disorder.

With hints of the return of Nurses’ Ball, expect to see more familiar past favorites, heralding the approaching end of GH—as secretly scheduled all along.

What do you think of Cesar Faison posing as Duke Lavery? It’s a rumor gaining steam.
