Amidst dire rumors of OLTL’s immediate cancellation, the hired PR maestros were out in full force issuing official statements to the contrary. But fans of PC recalled a similar maneuver, where actors insisted rumors of cancellation were untrue, and they should know. No, they don’t. Actors are the last to know.
In a partnership with student service organization, City Year, SOAPnet’s Soap Nation invites fans to join soap stars on October 24th, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., for one day of cleaning up NYC and L.A. area schools. OLTL actors slated to participate include Robin Strasser (Dorian) and Bree Williamson (Jessica). Joining the OLTLers: AMC’s Melissa Claire Egan (Annie), Bobbie Eakes (Krystal), and GH’s Brandon Barash (Johnny), Jane Elliot (Tracy), and Lisa LoCicero (Olivia). The event is a part of the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s iparticipate initiative.
James DePaiva (ex-Max) is sure to receive the loudest applause for his part in the New York Musical Theater Festival’s Under Fire at Theater at St. Clement’s, 423 W. 46th St. He’s already receiving Twitter buzz from soap colleagues.
Gossip for the week of 05-Oct-2009
Don’t pay any attention to the official word. OLTL is the weakest ABC Daytime link in the soap chain and will see an end soon. Just, maybe not this year. Apparently a new talk show was supposed to take the soap’s place but tested badly with preview audiences. One more year, people, and OLTL is history. Once this happens, expect to see permanent cross-overs of Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Michael Easton (John), Trevor St. John (Todd), and a handful of other important cast members.
Kathy Brier’s (ex-Marcie) official website was down last week, as in no longer in existence. I went to check on it while finishing up a review of Joni Mitchell’s classic Christmastime song, “River,” a song Brier did better than all the others before and since, including Corinne Bailey Rae.
