News for the week of 08-Jun-2009

by Carol Banks Weber

OLTL was just given the ax by Canada’s CTVglobemedia network for the Toronto market, due reportedly to financial considerations. OLTL just wasn’t cutting it anymore up there. There are two channels involved, CTV and A. The CTVglobemedia network announced last week its upcoming fall schedule of daytime shows, and OLTL – at the 2 p.m. timeslot – was replaced by ER reruns. AMC and GH maintained its status quo, with the soaps switching from CTV to the A channel. CTV will now only air B&B. Overall, the dump doesn’t impact soap fans, insofar as they can still get their fix online and through ABC Daytime. However, ABC and its parent company, Disney, will get hit with decreased international licensing revenue as a consequence.

Kathy Brier (Marcie) sings to a live audience at New York City’s Crash Mansion Bar on August 16, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., in a three-hour event. Following the special concert, Brier will greet fans, answer questions and sign autographs. Cost is $35 per person (two-drink minimum for advanced purchases), and $55 (including a two-drink minimum) the night of. More info, here.

Tuc Watkins (David) pops in for the summer.

Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL; ex-Kelly) could’ve moved onward and upward to CBS’s #1 and 2 soaps, Y&R and B&B. But she might’ve chosen to return to OLTL as Kelly, Blair’s sister, because of the location. OLTL and GL are both filmed in New York.
