News for the week of 08-Sep-2008

by Carol Banks Weber

Robin Strasser (Dorian) admitted to an addictive personality, the kind of person to readily take to trash TV (Jerry Springer, Maury Povich, for example) or have to go on diets. When she cleans out her body with better food, she removes junk from her home. Same thing when she cleans out her mind of trash TV, she removes all access to temptation by removing the cable TV. Before cable TV afforded her access to one of her addictions in her home, she used to sneak in her fix at work, in her dressing room, with “my teeny, little TV set...” She found herself yelling at the people on these trash shows, like yelling at the guests on the talk shows to use safe sex. –Soap Opera Digest, September 9, 2008

When it came time to film Nash’s death scene, the wardrobe department had quite the quandary. They had filmed Jessica in a lovely Milly-designed yellow dress that was purchased awhile ago, but required a backup that could get bloody and gross. They worried they wouldn’t be able to find another dress like it, but when costume designer Susan Gammie walked into Saks Fifth Avenue, there it was on sale.

Farah Fath (Gigi) singled out boyfriend John-Paul Lavoisier’s (Rex) tongue sport habit as quite noteworthy and oftentimes annoying. Lavoisier will stick his tongue out or do something weird with his tongue in OLTL scenes that drive Fath to distraction. “She yells at me when I [do it] on television.” –Soap Opera Digest, September 9, 2008

At the encouragement of Soap Opera Digest editor Stephanie Sloane, Fath turned to hairstylist Steven Amendola-Serge Normant, John Frieda Salon to brush up on some highlights. She was planning on doing it without seeking the okay of her bosses, but then she caught executive producer Frank Valentini during a party to see a camera member off, asked permission then. Valentini gave the okay, and there she is, with some blonde/reddish highlights to break up the brunette.

Jason Tam (Markko) and Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama have something in common, they’re both viewed as native sons of Hawaii, having attended the ultra-private, ultra-prestigious Punahou School located in Honolulu on Oahu. Punahou School is known for its outstanding, broad-based curriculum, as Class of 2001’s Tam would attest. He was able to partake of a variety of unusual classes and extra-curricular activities, from outrigger canoe paddling and the performance arts (Punahou’s is top-notch), to glass blowing and volleyball. With such an outstanding performance arts program, it’s natural that Tam fell into acting with gusto and later landed a plum role on OLTL. The precursors included Bye Bye Birdie as a third grader, Into the Woods, Greaseand some hip-hop, jazz dance classes when he was older. When Tam graduated from Punahou, he did so in typical Hawaiian style, with plenty of leis up to his eyeballs and a nice ride with some classmates to the Project Graduation party, a better, safer alternative to the usual drunken soirees of our youth.

Fiona Hutchison (ex-Gabrielle) has joined ATWT as an intern for executive producer Chris Goutman.

Jacqueline Hendy – recently picked up as Ray’s spouse, Vanessa – could attract Cristian’s attention, or vice versa. And Tess just might be able to lure Jared in the sack.
