News for the week of 14-May-2012

by Carol Banks Weber

Miss OLTL? Some of the canceled soap’s greatest stars will reunite for a special series of Loving Llanview events in the Midwest. Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair), Michael Easton (ex-John), Trevor St. John (ex-Todd/Victor), Hillary B. Smith (ex-Nora), John-Paul Lavoisier (ex-Rex), and Melissa Archer (ex-Natalie) will attend three reunion shows: Cincinnati, OH’s Taft Theatre, June 22; Merrillville, IN’s Star Plaza Theatre, June 23; and Chicago’s Akoo Theatre at Rosemont, June 24. Pre-sale tickets started May 9. After each event, the actors will stay to sign autographs and take photos with fans.

It isn’t easy filming and performing multiple personalities, Erika Slezak (ex-Viki) told Michael Fairman in a May 9, 2012-posted interview. She explained that, in order for the scene with Viki’s alters to work, they need doubles for each one. And for her, the doubles needed to deliver their lines flat, or else she’d forget her lines. The difficulty of those scenes, featured in her special DID story for the soap’s 40th anniversary show, could prove to be the magic ticket to yet another Daytime Emmy (she’s nominated!). Slezak submitted the 40th anniversary show, after debating whether she could instead submit the one where Viki found Charlie cheating on her with Echo. She couldn’t. “… they split that into two shows, but we taped it as one show. There was so much material in it, so [EP] Frank Valentini said we are going to cut it into two shows. I couldn’t submit it because it was not a full show.”
