News for the week of 21-Apr-2008

Consider OLTL’s May Sweeps a culmination of all those storyline teases, with a mix of drama and sitcom, said head writer Ron Carlivati. Todd and Blair reap what they’ve sown with the seeds of mistrust, and this totalitarian dictatorship Todd especially set up for Starr. Because Cole takes a leadership position in Starr’s life, directing them both toward their own family, away from her parents’ confines. Blair begins to take a stand of her own, for her daughter, and in reaction against Todd’s heavyhanded discipline of her. Cole’s guardian in charge, John, has something to add of significance to this dramatic story. Todd, Blair or John - one of them - learns that Starr has to deal with a teen pregnancy.

Another drama heads toward the altar in typical soap fashion. Rex and Adriana are headed down the aisle, but his unresolved, burgeoning attraction for Gigi threatens to end all the festivities before the final “I dos.” In Adriana’s twisted head, if she throws Brody back at Gigi, then all’s well that ends well, and she can be with Rex at the wedding ceremony, no pesky Gigi. Before the wedding hits its stride-if it even goes through-three more characters learn of Shane’s real paternity. Rex isn’t the only one falling; Gigi’s falling for him too.

In a mix of drama and sitcom, two stories feature the Buchanan family-Jared dying inside without Natalie in the shadow of his identity fraud, and the revelation of the mind behind BE’s rival takeover attempt in a shareholders’ meeting. Jared and Natalie travel to Texas, their huge secret (he’s not the missing Buchanan heir, David is) dogging them every step. According to Carlivati, Jared will pull out all the stops to show Natalie he’s for real about her. They also try to help Charlie blurt out what he’s had to hide before it’s too late for Viki and Rex, or these two learn of the secret through another source. Before Charlie can open his mouth, another character comes around to shut it. The sitcom comes in when Tuc Watkins reprises his hilarious David Vickers, with everybody either ignorant of his true heritage or trying to keep him ignorant of it.

Carlivati mentioned a “mystery woman” popping back up and three “sort of major” departures, including one character killed off. He said nobody will see it coming. -Soap Opera Digest, April 29, 2008

Kevin Spiritas (ex-Craig Wesley, DOOL) shows up in June as Jonas Chamberlain. Jonas will figure in heavily with the reappearance of Andrea Evans’ Tina Lord. His identity is sure to please and delight long-time OLTL fans.

What stands out in Kamar de los Reyes’ (Antonio) Soap Opera Digest, April 22, 2008 “You Sexy Thing” profile was his weakness for women’s voices and women’s mouths. Most of the soap hunks chosen as sexiest in their field went for the casual look in their women over fancy-schmancy, including de los Reyes, who, if he were a porn star would be “Duchess Ginger Tree.” His idea of the perfect, sexiest, most enticing woman is, naturally, his wife Sherri Saum (ex-Keri). She has every quality that turns him on, the spontaneity, the voice and the mouth, the British and Aussie accents if she puts her mind to it. He loves on her by giving her thoughtful, loving notes about how much she means to him and mushy stuff like “she was the most beautiful bride I had ever laid eyes on and I think about the day I married her like it was yesterday!” Btw, the porn star name was derived by putting together the name of the first pet the actor had with the name of the street he was raised at.

Like his OLTL alter-ego Jared, John Brotherton studied business in college before opting for acting. Now, he’s acting as a business executive on the soap. He recalled being in the last college class in his pajamas and dreaming about hitting the road for L.A. to pursue his acting instead of an internship at, say, Intel, like a lot of his colleagues.

It’s already out on the Internet that Forbes March (Nash) is one of those “sort of major” departures and the big kill. David Fumero (Cristian) may also go away, shortly following his wife Melissa Gallo (Adriana).

Who is this ailing woman Ramsey’s been hiding away and nursing back to health? The obvious choice is John’s presumed-killed fiancée Caitlin. The not-so-obvious choice is Susan Haskell returning to play Caitlin, not Marty.

John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) indicated his ignorance as to the reason behind a dropped plot during the writers’ strike, other than, it must’ve been during the writers’ strike. Rex had been seen pilfering something Charlie touched at the Diner to prove that the guy was his dad or something, but then viewers never saw the completion of that.
