News for the week of 22-Oct-2007

by Carol Banks Weber

Erika Slezak brings Viki back but when fans first see her again this week, it’ll be in a more humble guise (waitress) and in a whole other town (Paris, TX). Plus, she’ll be chatting up the locals, including one very handsome, mysterious stranger named Charlie, as portrayed by the winsome Brian Kerwin. Slezak could not say enough good things about her new co-star. She loves working with him and loves her new story, which she promises will throw Viki into a complicated relationship.

David Fumero (Cristian) and Melissa Gallo (Adriana) plan to tie the knot late next month. His upcoming marriage to co-star Gallo prevents Fumero from attending Super Soap Weekend.

Brandon Buddy – it has been said by many soap critics – has come into his own as a new actor when he was given the opportunity to play Starr’s boyfriend Cole on OLTL. Before that, he had very little to no previous acting experience, other than a few auditions and some classes. Buddy himself doubted he’d ever be in the running during the OLTL audition, but he knew he liked Kristen Alderson (Starr) – whom he screentested with – a lot. When his manager gave him the good news about nailing the role, maybe on the strength of his chemistry with Alderson, Buddy was flabbergasted, in a good way. He addressed the latest concern surrounding his surprise hit pairing with Starr—the actress is underaged and he is a young adult—by saying that it’s acting, it’s about fantasy and in this fantasy on OLTL the two are both teenagers. Buddy and Alderson have become close friends and he, a friend of the family. “The second night I was here, they invited me to their apartment and I was there until 2 o’clock in the morning, talking. They just embraced me; they invite me on vacations and stuff. It’s been great.” –Soap Opera Digest, “The Buddy System” by Lauren Flynn, October 23, 2007

Both Bree Williamson (Jessica) and Kathy Brier (Marcie) reportedly re-signed for more OLTL years.

Nathaniel Marston (Michael; ex-Al) is in big trouble with the law and with his job, if New York Daily News reports are true. According to reports, Marston was taken into police custody this past Sunday for allegedly going after three guys with a crate, causing a broken leg in one of the guys, and resisting arrest. The charges include felony assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. It gets worse; they put Marston in Bellevue Hospital for emotional problems and let him go a little bit later. Police allegedly claim that the actor was high on coke during the physical altercation. Also from this New York Daily News publication are allegations that Marston erupted with rage the other week at the OLTL studios and was fired as Al in 2003 in large part due to his rage issues. Soap Opera Digest/Weekly’s Carolyn Hinsey was quoted as saying, “He is definitely going to lose his job. They've given him chance after chance after chance.” Marston must appear in court February 4, 2008, to deal with his charges.

Starr is killed off, leaving Blair and Dorian to grieve with the daughter stand-in, Langston.

Despite the official party line about Melissa Gallo’s remaining on OLTL as Adriana for the duration, EYE ON SOAPS/Pressing Developments columnist Carolyn Aspenson insisted in her October 15th update that Gallo’s gone. She also said Michael Easton (John) is gone too.
