News for the week of 27-May-2013
by Carol Banks Weber
First Susie Bedsow Horgan, now Thom Racina’s out. New co-head writers of OLTL are Marin Gazzaniga and Jessica Klein, as announced last Friday.
The first episodes of OLTL and AMC are available for free on TOLN’s YouTube channel, now.
Subsequent to the Prospect Park announcement reducing the number of weekly episodes, FX Canada decided to cancel its plan to air both soaps. The FX Canada deal hinged on OLTL/AMC airing five days a week. When that changed, there wasn’t a deal anymore. Viewers in Canada can still watch on iTunes Canada.
Because of the reduction in episodes per week, Hulu.com and Hulu Plus agreed to let viewers catch up on the first three weeks of OLTL and AMC for free.
Ron Raines (ex-Alan Spaulding, GL), Marnie Schulenburg (ex-Alison Stewart, ATWT), Paolo Seganti (ex-Damian Grimaldi, ATWT), Amber Skye Noyes, and Alice Callahan (Gossip Girl) join OLTL as new characters. Raines takes on the role of Jeffrey’s financial benefactor Carl Peterson. Schulenburg is Jo Sullivan, David’s producer in a new reality show. Seganti plays a wealthy patron of the arts named Arturo Bandini. Noyes, a recording artist (her song, “Secret,” made it in the top 12 in the 2010 SongCircle songwriting competition), could give Dani some competition as Michelle, Matthew’s latest squeeze. Callahan appears starting June 27 as Jack’s summer school teacher. Noyes and Seganti also appear June 27, while Schulenburg appears July 23, and Raines August 20.
Prospect Park’s TOLN (The Online Network) pulls out all the stops for Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dogg) and his May 28-June 6 appearance. Besides interacting with Bo, Nora, and Matthew, the rap artist will plug his new documentary of his evolution, in the upcoming Reincarnated. Dubbed “Snoop Week,” TOLN will also devote its website and social networks to the rapper’s photo-bombing app Snoopify for enhanced, interaction with fans. –Daytime Confidential, May 23, 2013

Prospect Park execs may have officially stated understandable reasons for cutting back on weekly episodes, but many in the industry are surmising there’s worse at play underneath. Perhaps the OLTL and AMC reboots aren’t doing as well as expected? Perhaps these two online experiments will end before they really get going?
