News for the week of 10-Feb-2014
by Carol Banks Weber
Go on Twitter Valentine’s Day to chat live with Y&R’s Sharon Case (Sharon), Joshua Morrow (Nick), Christel Khalil (Lily), and Daniel Goddard (Cane), 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 a.m. PT. Use #Heart2Heart for your live “Love Chats.”
Jess Walton (Jill), Daniel Goddard (Cane), and Tristan Rogers (Colin; ex-Robert Scorpio, GH) sat down with On-Air On-Soaps’ Michael Fairman in a February 3rd interview to pump up their upcoming umbrella story and his much-anticipated return for fans of the number-one-rated CBS soap. They revealed what it took to get Rogers there. Lots of discussion and hype from Walton especially, with executive producer Jill Farren Phelps (ex-GH) on board. Goddard, too, was a part of the process. “I was ecstatic. Jess and I had been talking for a while of how we could pull this off, and we were texting with Tristan to find out if this is something he would want to do.” Then, the two went to Phelps a lot. Walton couldn’t let Rogers/Colin go, not after he worked so well with her and her character. When they got him back, they were all sworn to secrecy. Good luck with that. The Internet got a hold of the secret and blew it wide open before Y&R’s honchos were ready.
Rogers thinks he knows what transpired, even possibly who leaked the secret. A week, maybe two after he agreed to return to Y&R, Rogers’ manager said they needed to inform GH already, because he’d be unavailable after January 6. Knowing GH’s PTB wouldn’t simply accept that without further detail, they had to lay out the reason. “They already had plans in place for Robert Scorpio to move ahead in the story. But, I was to have been told back in October by GH what the plans were for me and Scorpio, and no one told me,” Rogers said. “So now we are making plans to join Y&R, and GH is writing me in beyond February. I said to my manager, ‘You are going to have to tell them what is going on. They are not going to accept this any other way.’ She did tell them and I am not going to say who did it, but within five seconds of them being told, it was on Twitter. And they were told specifically to keep it under cover and ‘BAM,’ it went out there immediately. After that, the genie was out of the bottle, and here I am.”
The story that has Rogers, Walton, and Goddard so excited doesn’t sound very exciting. Jill returns with Colin in tow. Colin tries to make amends with his son, Cane, which pisses off and scares Lily. Remember, Colin tried to take her twins back with him to Australia. But Walton has wanted Jill’s own love story to continue with this dangerous man and it seems she got what she wanted — at GH’s expense, just when the WSB needs Robert Scorpio. I hope she’s satisfied with the lackluster ratings.
Steve Burton (Dylan; ex-Jason, GH) told soap fan Chris Burgess last week that he re-signed with Y&R, blowing any hope of a GH comeback.

Is it hard to picture Michelle Stafford (ex-Phyllis) on any other soap other than Y&R? How about GH as Silas’ presumed-dead wife Nina?
The week when Adam and Billy faced off was one of the highest-rated weeks in Y&R’s history. For both beloved soap actors, Michael Muhney and Billy Miller, that was their final curtain call. Y&R has let go two tremendous actors.
However, David Tom returned as Miller’s predecessor seamlessly, yet noticeably in his own natural, guileless style. He brought a fragile fierceness to the role reminiscent of a young Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky, GH), and Leonardo DiCaprio.
