Michael Fairman interviewed Peter Bergman (Jack/Marco) about his current dual story and the new head writer’s stamp on the show in an August 19th interview. For the most part, it seems Bergman’s game for whatever Charles Pratt Jr. dishes out, no matter how outrageous or “wild” the journey. Bergman gave the arc of his reaction to all the new stories coming out, ranging from the initial reservations to appreciation. “The ratings have been much improved. I watch the show where initially I thought, ‘What’s with this little Scooby-Doo group?’ And by the way, those people are fantastic, but now it all makes sense. I watch Justin Hartley (Adam) and Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea) knocking it out of the park. I think Gina Tognoni has proven to be so much more than we thought we were going to get. We expected a lot from her, and we got so much more than we even expected. She is pretty amazing!”
Kambra Clifford did more than get down to brass tacks about Y&R, story, character, and acting motivation in her August 20th, Soap Central interview with Sofia Pernas (Marisa). Clifford learned a lot about Pernas’ strict upbringing, her father’s wish for her to pursue a more noble profession — maybe journalism? Maybe not — and her impressions of working on a soap for the first time. She was very impressed. All that work and very little time to rehearse produced in her a deeper appreciation for the genre, and forced her to really do her homework with the script before it’s time to shoot. “The thing is, the scariest thing about soaps is trusting your choices as an actor and just doing it, literally going for it and trusting your choice, and hoping that people like it. Because you don't get another take. You do that take, and you're in the parking lot two hours later, and you're going, ‘Oh, my God, I should have done that!’ In that moment, you just have to go for it,” Pernas explained. “And I think that's the scariest thing about it, because you want to play it safe sometimes. And Peter [Bergman/Jack, Marco] was really instrumental in getting that into my head. He was so great and told me how it is my first day. He said, ‘I know it can get really overwhelming and it happens so quick, so if you have something that you think you want to do, just do it. Because if you don't, you're going to regret it. You will be in the parking lot an hour and a half later saying, ‘Holy crap, that was so fast.’”
Gossip for the week of 24-Aug-2015
Fans read more into Peter Bergman’s interview with Michael Fairman last week than I ever could. They claimed to read between the lines. Meaning, they thought Bergman was subtly throwing shade at TPTB’s crazy stories under the guise of surface praise. Okay.
