News for the week of 27-Jul-2015

by Carol Banks Weber

Eric Braeden (Victor) revealed more than his soap credits in a recent interview with Deborah Long at Grandparents.com. A favorite soap celebrity on Twitter, Braeden glimpsed a little of why in his responses to five questions, including what he’s most proud of and what he can cook. Braeden grew up in the middle of Germany during WWII and emigrated to the United States at the age of 18. He grew up knowing hunger and learning to appreciate the value of sports as a strong teaching element. He himself is a considerable athlete, having won the German Youth Championship in track and field and the U.S. Championship in soccer in his early years. “I think sports are so important. They teach resilience and respect, and help one develop an understanding that there are strong people everywhere. It would be a better world if all politicians played sports and got knocked on their ass a few times; it would keep them from having a false sense of power,” he said. He also put together the German American Culture Society “to open a German-Jewish dialogue that breaks stereotypes and lends the understanding that what connects us is stronger than what separates us...” There’s a lot more. Go read the interview, you’ll develop a greater respect for Braeden. You might even learn a neat, healthy recipe he cooked up.

Is Kristoff St. John (Neil) the next to receive a storyline-dictated exit, and can Peter Bergman (Jack/Marco) stem the tide of bad over-acting inspired by Charles Pratt Jr.’s fast-paced, plot-driven overlay? Judging by Bergman’s latest Victor-obsessed, hospital bed tirade, probably not.
