absolutely distance herself from Sonny as he is in fact--a known mobster aka crime boss. The optics are very bad for her to even maintain a friendship with him. It's politics, that's a given that who you are seen with is a reflection on you. It's an easy Achilles heel for an opponent to use against her when it's election time.
