Just as the writers in the 70s romanticized a rapist (Luke) the writers in the late 90s and 2000's romanticized mobsters: Jason and Sonny. The thing about it is, they were greedy. They wanted to have their cake and be able to eat it too. The stuff that really ticked me off is when they started solving crimes and making the PCPD look like keystones cops. You have Jason going to Spinelli having pull footage from traffic cameras, trace emails, track cell phones ALL things that the police are able to do.

But as I said in one of my other posts--Carly/Jason/Sonny became The Titans on the show. No matter who they went up against, they were shown to be smarter, better, tougher, and 99.9% of the time victorious. Sonny, who put AJ on a meat hook and threatened him until he signed over his parental rights. Sonny and Jason paid off the lady to drug Jax, tear her clothes and say he tried to rape her. All in the name of stopping him from taking Joss to Australia. As a result, Jax was deported.

Laura and Anna opening their eyes and acknowledging he is a BAD guy who has done some GOOD things is hypocritical but it is low on my list of outrageous/perplexing things a character has done on GH. Laura seeing Cyrus IMMEDIATELY after Sonny savagely beat him--and it was savagely. They only showed us like 3 punches, but clearly Sonny kept on hitting him and beat him unconscious. Laura isn't supposed to be alarmed by seeing firsthand what Sonny did to someone with his bare hands? I think she would want to distance herself from him after that. Who wouldn't? She explained to him exactly why. As the mayor, she should have cut her ties long ago. But it is a 180 and it's kinda jarring. If it had happened more organically, I think it would go down easier. The other thing here is this is extreme overkill to have so many characters turning on Sonny at the same time. Seeing as how his meds are not right, then it would make way more sense if Sonny was the one cutting them off.

Oh well. Great post Karen!
