For years, Alexis gave Molly more positive attention because Molly wanted to follow in Alexis’ footsteps. Alexis treated Kristina like a problem child because Kristina didn’t have the clear-cut life plan that Alexis wanted her to have. One reason Kristina is closer to Sonny is that he never judged her as harshly as her mother did. Once upon a time, that was the story.
Under the latest writing regime, we’ve been told that Kristina always had to be the center of attention. Several of us were surprised by the change and agreed that it was a new direction for the character.
And because it serves the current SL, we’re all buying the story that Kristina has always been the favorite. Even me. But then, that is what I do. The show tells me a story and I roll with it. The day I get pressed about a story on GH, I’ll stop watching.
IRL, parents actually do give more attention to the child who needs it most. IRL, the division of attention to kids in a family is never equal or fair, but is based on need, so I’m not sure why I came down on Alexis so hard for doing that now, except that, like I said, I tend to roll with what GH hands me, and right now they are telling me she favors Kristina.
And to be clear, I’ll continue to accept that. Krissie is self-centered and needy now, and Alexis shows her favoritism. But for the record, that has not always been the story.
