Sonny and Kate – October 9, 2008, to October 10, 2008

October revolved around the same conversation: Sonny saying that he should go back to the mob and stay there to protect the people around him, and Kate insisting that he should stay out of the mob. That they should make another attempt to be happy away from the mob.

Sonny’s assumptions about who shot Kate were not true based on what was playing on screen at that time. The story, at that time, was that Anthony Zachara shot Kate to create conflict between Sonny and Jason. Sonny believed that it was Karpov who shot Kate because Sonny ended his dealings with him after he found out Karpov’s dealings involved drugs (a possible hint to the story of Stone).

This belief was strengthened when Kate told Sonny about Karpov’s gift of red roses. He thought that it was a kind of a warning sign from Karpov.

Kate had a conversation with Robin and Robin opened up about the story of Stone and the time he was dealing with and dying from AIDS. That Sonny was beside him every step of the way. Along with Robin. That Stone’s death affected both of them in the same ways. Of course, Sonny was in the mob during that time and Robin told Kate that the only time Sonny made an attempt at leaving the mob was during the last few months of summer when Sonny and Kate were engaged. Robin said that a big part of Sonny’s decision was Kate’s presence in his life.

Robin said that Sonny was seeking revenge and that it was Kate that could eventually stop him.

It was in this conversation that Kate’s dilemma was revealed regarding the secret of Dante, Sonny’s hidden son with Olivia. Could Kate reveal this secret to Sonny if Sonny got back to the mob?

Sonny’s stated reason for going back to the mob was that: “Without an organization, I can’t retaliate.” Meaning that if he doesn’t have the leverage of an organization, it will make him look weak and more exposed to attacks to himself and the people around him. Attacks that could happen for reasons that had to do with Sonny’s history in the mob and his past in the mob.

This is what happens when the game of life becomes about exercise of illegitimate power. When entities use this power to overcome others and abuse their human rights, including the right to realize their dreams. Each entity would need an organization to defend itself. That is the world that would be present for all under this circumstance and under these parameters. There is no true freedom if the parameters don’t change.
