they bring in new writers and they position the show for the stories they want to tell, then he's gone and new writers and now an exec dictating story.
It explains why storylines have been flitting from story to story but never really following through.
A good soap storylines starts with the more boring set up/exposition stage - positioning the characters for the story and setting up the circumstance that will lead to the story. Usually this is giving less air time -- with the stories that are hitting their stride or coming to a climax getting the most air time.
Then the story goes into action mode with the story building over a few months ... (hopefully involving secondary characters).
Then there is the thrilling climax that lasts a few weeks when everything comes together to resole the story.
Then the things settle down and the characters play secondary roles in other characters' stories until it is time to set up their next big adventure.
Lately GH has been flitting from storyline to storyline never really settling on anything before changing direction.
It's not that there can't be restructuring -- its just that there have been too many shifts in too short a time.
