It was not only a crime but stupid for for Portia to mess with Heather's test results. However, when Brad tried to blackmail her she should have come clean to Curtis. He wouldn't have liked it, but I think may have been able to forgive Portia knowing how she outraged she was about what Heather did to Trina, Brit and probably others she cared about.
Curtis may have had another option for her, or maybe would have gone along with letting Brad blackmail her for his job back if she had told him the truth.
But the thing about blackmail is that once a blackmailer has you in their power, they keep requesting more and ore and more and you are dependent upon them keeping their mouths shut -- as happened it his case -- selling you out to someone with deeper pockets.
It was inevitable Curtis was going to find out eventually. I understand wanting to avoid the fight that would have occurred had Portia told Curtis at the beginning, but there is a good chance it would have been forgivable.
Now that it has spiraled out of control and the lie has been hanging over them for so long, trust is totally broken. The sooner you accept you screwed up and admit your mistake and take the consequences the better. Portia should have known eventually Curtis would find out the truth and it would be better coming from her.
