In Memoriam
Margaret “Maggie” DePriest, an actress and Daytime Emmy-nominated writer, passed away on September 29, at the age of 94. Born in Bristow, Oklahoma, on April 19, 1931, she began her career as an actress. She even won an Obie Award in 1965 for Best Actress for her performance in A Place for Chance. She originated the role of Abby Cameron on The Edge of Night from 1965-66 and played Mrs. Berger on The Doctors from 1967-68. Yet it was as a writer she would make her greatest impact, having been nominated five times for a Daytime Emmy. In the mid-1960s, she was head writer along with Lou Scofield on The Edge of Night. In 1969, the two writers co-created and co-head wrote Where the Heart Is, remaining with the show for its entire run which ended in 1973. In 1975, she worked on How to Survive a Marriage as well as Love of Life. The next year she returned to a soap she had once acted on, head writing for The Doctors. But it was her next job as co-head writer with Pat Falken Smith on General Hospital that catapulted the careers of everyone associated with the soap from 1980 to 1981, during the mania surrounding Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis). She was associated with a glory time for another soap — Days of Our Lives — from 1981-84. Head writing stints followed at All My Children in 1989, One Life to Live from 1990-91, Another World from 1986-88 and again in 1996-97, and her last writing position was at Sunset Beach from 1998-99. She was married to actor/writer/director Paul Price, who predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter Sara and son Jake.

June Lockhart, who played Felicia’s (Kristina Wagner) grandmother Maria (pronounced “Mariah”) beginning in 1984 and making her last appearance in 2000, passed away from natural causes on October 23, at the age of 100. Wagner paid tribute to her former co-star on X, writing, “June was so elegant and sweet as Felicia’s grandmother but behind the scenes she was sassy and loads of fun. At the end of each work day she would say, ‘This nightmare is finally over!’ 😆 Rest in peace, June. ❤️” Lynn Herring (Lucy) shared on X, “My 1st week as mousy Lucy ⁦@GeneralHospital almost 40 years ago, I was extremely nervous and Ms Lockhart was the 1st person to make me feel welcome & said ‘You’ve got this, you are doing great!’ 🩷 I have been so grateful for her kindness ever since!!”

Alumni Report
Emma Samms (ex-Holly, GH) shared on Instagram. “I built a website! And I’m prouder of the tech involved in doing that than the art it’s promoting 😂,” she wrote on the picture featured…. Eva LaRue (ex-Natalia, GH; ex-Celeste, Y&R) has a two-part documentary about her and her daughter Kaya’s experiences with a relentless stalker that will premiere on Paramount+ on November 13.
