Those being the actors who play Rocco and Charlotte. The rest can be involved but no heavy drama. I hate this dog story. I love dogs. I have a dog, but this would have been a much better summer story. The stuff with Gio and Emma bringing them all to Sonny's house had me rolling my eyes.
There is so much going on with the younger generation, it should be easy to do something topical and/or snatched from the headlines. Such as:
~Date Rape: New slimy frat boy is going around campus, selling narcotics, but also drugging and raping girls. That could have been a great undercover assignment for Joss. She gets drugged somehow and at the last minute--Gio and Kai show up save her before the dude can rape her.
~Bring back Adam: Let's see him struggling trying to retain his parent's approval and maybe he attempts suicide by slitting his wrists or maybe show his dad physically abusing him--he fights back and kills him in self defense.
Racism: Trina and Emma enroll in the same course and the professor is brutal to Trina but easy on Emma. Turns out, it's due to racism and so they set a trap and the professor gets snared, humiliated, and fired.
