Here is a good article that compares that day, January 20, 2009 to what happened on January 6, 2021 and asks the questions: Is diversity America’s strength or is diversity our weakness? and Is hope or fear a more effective motivation?

The last 15 years were a lot of history to live through. I worked on President Obama’s first campaign (in Pennsylvania) and we had so many young, newly politicized volunteers who were convinced that their generation had finally done what none could do before them — end racism. As a seasoned older activist, I appreciated their idealism but I knew that the fight against evil like racism and hate is a neverending battle and, if you wanted to commit to that fight, you had to learn to pace yourself and give up your “all or nothing” ideas. I hope that some of those idealistic kids are still in the fight 15 years later.

Also, who knew back then, that 15 years later some of us would be wishing more Republicans today were more like McCain.
