to Vance’s wife this way. Afterall, the #1 goal of many MAGAs, especially white evangelicals, is to make the US a white Christian country. Also, despite his evangelical Protestant upbringing, didn’t Vance convert to Catholic? I’ve known some white evangelical Protestants who do not considera Catholics to be one of them. Some don’t even think Catholics are Christian because they have “false gods” (saints, Mary, the Pope).
Vance certainly fits the MAGA wants on far right policy positions. But his brown wife and mixed kids likely negates all of his policy positions for some MAGAs.
This all illustrates what an ugly place we are in this country. We are still dealing with a lot of backlash from electing Obama, our first black president. A bunch of people never got over that. Hence the venom about DEI (diversity, equality and inclusion being seen as awful concepts).
It also begs the question: What was Trump thinking when he picked Vance? Number one is probably that Vance kissed ass the most. Number two is probably that Trump thought Vance would guarantee the white evangelical vote. Hopefully Vance will help the Democrats instead; in an ugly way though.
