People have NO idea what is coming, and they think that they will be OK because they are "legal" immigrants, or good citizens caregiving for parents, or following the rules, etc. Too many will be ROYALLY effed. HR1 ends or limits coverage for even many classes of lawfully present but non-citizen individuals. People who "followed the rules". Because they were never going to go after just the undocumented. As we said.
HR1 is such a model of Cruelty by Design.
I have been on multiple calls on its impact, both internal and external, I have done my own review of what our Health & Human Services Agency has said about its impact on even middle class Californians. It's bad.
Didn't "break the rules" by coming here "lawfully"? They are still effing you over. Took time off from work to care for your parents because you had no other choice due to how much long term care costs, and are on Medicaid? Well, you better be able to prove you are "working".
Homeless? Well, tough, you have to meet work requirements if you are under 65.
It will impact nearly every state budget, horrifically. That means cuts everywhere.
And because some provisions come in later, people won't feel it as acutely.
Justice in Aging has a good fact sheet on it. Do not sleep on this. If you have a loved one using Medicaid or the Exchanges or SNAP (and other programs), they will be impacted, if not presently, then in the next couple of years.
So, you thought there was no difference between Rump and Harris? You were fooled again.
