Lethal force should be the LAST option, not the first.
Too many people seem to think we're living in the Wild West or want us to go back to those days. Lethal force should not be what people immediately jump to. What was the guy who shot a kid for ringing his door bell even thinking? For all he knew, it could've been an emergency, it could've been the fire department or police coming to evacuate him because there was a problem in the area, etc. I'd bet good money that dude was a regular Fox News watcher who heard every day about "the violent crime in America done by the 'other' (not-white, trans, immigrant, etc)".
There was a terrible case here a few years ago where a man bought his 13 year old a gun for Christmas and before the day was over the boy had accidentally shot and killed himself with it. Children should not be given dangerous weapons. Why is this a controversial take to some? You wouldn't give your kid a car when they're 13 or a pet rattlesnake but a gun? Sure, why not!
