For a long time now, I've been looking for a new recliner for the living room. It's taken this long because I am being SUPER picky about what I want and right now, manufacturers mostly aren't making what I want. I need something tall and narrow and everything's short and squat right now. There's a furniture store 30 minutes away that I've never been to that's advertising a pretty good sale on recliners, and from the ad, one looks to be close to what I want. The recliner I currently have is old and looks it but thanks to Dad, it's still working the way it should, thus I'm not in much of a rush to replace it* so I might go check out this recliner on sale tomorrow and I might not. The good news is the furniture store is in a pretty rural town, so I doubt they'll have throngs of customers.

* one of my resolutions for 2024 is to talk to Dad about totally redoing the living room. He's a typical old school dude where if something's not actually non-functioning, he doesn't care about how it looks. And he's never been into home renovation; when they were house shopping back in 1970, Dad told Mom to get something "live in-ready", not something that "has good bones but needs a little work". He'll paint and that's it for house projects (and now that he's 80, he might not even be interested in painting anymore). Right now, the living room is a disaster. The walls haven't been painted in at least 35 years, maybe longer, and I hate the color (a weird dingy yellow that was dingy even before 35 years of wear). The carpet--a hideous rust orange and brown shag carpet that Mom was thrilled to get for her 50th birthday back in 1981--has not one but two big, very visible rips in it. And I've always hated the couch and love seat. The shape of both are fine but they're a vile bold floral pattern and have some kind of scratchy material covering them. I only found out recently that Mom hated them too and bought them, oh, about 35 years ago, as a "temporary fix", getting them on a good sale (I can understand why they were on sale) and figuring they'd be good enough until she found something she really wanted.
