but he's much improved since lunch. The drug certainly didn't affect his appetite; so far today he's had breakfast, lunch, a handful of crunchy kitty treats, a squirt of whipped cream, a handful of crumbs from the maple bourbon bars I made (from a store bought mix that was a seasonal item--no bourbon was involved), a couple spoonsful of Dad's mashed potatoes that he had with lunch and a handful of chopped up chicken left over from my lunch.

I was getting REALLY worried last night, especially after a Google search informed me that senior kitties with kidney issues should probably not take gabapentin, or should only do so as a last resort. When (if) Leo needs another blood draw, I'm going to ask that we try it with just a lot of treats and no kitty burrito. And definitely not the awful tech from the first attempt who kept bouncing Leo's head up and down to "distract" him.

Incidentally, the vet called today with Leo's results and his kidney disease is, unfortunately and not surprisingly, a little worse. There's four stages of kidney disease with kitties, with 1 being the mildest and 4 requiring IVs; Leo's moved from stage 2 to stage 3. She recommended a kitty vitamin but nothing else right now.

She does fine with our large dogs but I guess because this one was a stranger she was nervous. She wrapped her leash around my legs three times while I wrote them a check (it would be easier to use a card but they give a good discount for check or cash and I never have cash).

Poor baby! *I* get nervous sometimes around large barking dogs too, so I feel for her. Interesting about the check...I've never thought to ask if Leo's vet would give me a discount for not putting the bill on my card.
