Because it probably is my favourite Bob Marley song, but it's really linked into a real-world event for me.

in 2019 I was generally having a rough time with my family so I was stressed out consistently. And at the same time, the Toronto Raptors were in the NBA Championship series against the Golden State Warriors. They had just played a home game and it had gotten ugly -- Kevin Durant was hurt during the game, some fans 100% cheered his falling (though lots of people who were there that night insist they had no idea what had actually happened to him) and then we'd gone on to lose the game and it just was an ugly and depressing moment in something that was supposed to be uplifting and fun.

I woke up the next morning feeling pretty bummed out about it and I turned on the radio to CBC, where they were interviewing fans in Jurrasic Park (a space outside the area where fans congrate during games) about what had happened and they ended on an interview with an older Jamaican guy who had been playing steel drums for the crowd. And he was very philosophical about things and at the end of the interview he started to sing Three Little Birds acapella. And the radio blended the interview with the actual song and then they played that through after the interview ended. And it was so... comforting. Just a depressing and stressful time for reasons that had nothing to do with the Raptors, but hearing that song was really honestly helpful. I think of how that felt every time I hear it.

Anyway. Yes. Three Little Birds. Great song.

of Redemption Song as the screensaver on my laptop: "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, None but ourselves can free our minds."

There is a very nice moment in the film around Redeption Song.
