My dad is so freakin' adorable when it comes to food. Like most people his age, he grew up eating a relatively unvaried and IMO rather bland diet. He didn't have the advantage of different ethnic restaurants scattered all around like we do now. He's not exactly an adventurous eater but he WILL try anything I put down in front of him. Last night, I was explaining couscous to him. When I met bff for lunch and to hand over her beads, she gave me a container of homemade beef stew plus two made up plates that each contained a pork chop, couscous and broccoli*. I had to tell Dad what the couscous was...I half expected him to try it and not finish it because of the texture (the tiny grains get stuck in his dentures) and I even told him he didn't have to eat it, I would if he didn't want it, but he cleaned his plate. Also, for the Super Bowl a couple weeks ago, I'd bought, among other things, the locally famous "gas station hummus" from a local Sunoco (not the original place where it's sold [link] ). I got the "everything but the bagel" flavor--I prefer the dill pickle hummus but it's popular so you take what you can find <g>. Two days later, I went to get some...it was GONE. When I asked Dad if he'd seen it in the fridge (maybe I'd overlooked it?), he shrugged and said he ate it. It was a pretty good size container, and there was a LOT left since I served plenty of other foods for the SB. I was shocked...I've *never* known Dad to eat hummus but he said it was good. I shudder to know what he ate it with...if anything.

* my bff is such a generous soul. She makes all these dishes for herself, freezes some, then either takes some to her sister and BIL or gives me some when I see her. Right now, her sister is battling a fortunately mild case of COVID, so Dad and I were the lucky recipients of bff's extra food.
