I always hated how the wife loves her yippy, annoying chihuahuas (as opposed to the nice chihuahuas that are out there) but barely acknowledged Juice, and the hubby dislikes ALL the animals but really disliked Juice. I don't THINK he was behind Juice's disappearance last fall...but I also wouldn't be totally surprised if he did have something to do with it.
If you're in our house looking at the street...the neighbors on our left are now, I believe, the residents who've been on our block the longest. The "Js" were there when we moved in in 1970. The neighbors on our right were the Dunmires: a woman who was widowed at a young age and practically singlehandedly raised three kids (four?--the older kids were considerably older than me). Their youngest daughter was about 4-5 years older than me; I got some of her hand-me-down Barbie stuff. After the kids all left the house, the widow lived there a while longer, then sold to the "Ms" in 1998 apparently <g>. The Ms moved last year; now it's a guy whose first name starts with M. For the first few months, we never saw him at the house, then we only saw him on the weekends and only ever working in the yard. I used to joke he bought the house so he could turn it into a meth lab. The first time I talked to M, I was outside with Leo...M said some negative comments about cats in general that made me concerned enough to keep a closer eye on my kitty whenever I was outside. The next time, he was fretting over a low spot that crosses both our backyards and asking me if he could put in some kind of drain. I told him I didn't care what he did in his yard but if he wanted to do something in ours, he'd have to ask Dad, the homeowner. Recently, he's been puttering around back near the low spot, putting in a drain or a pump or who knows what. He was talking about running a pipe down to the street or maybe the ditch that's in our yard (the previous owners had filled in their ditch). His sister sometimes comes over to help with the yardwork; she asked Dad about the property line. He told her he didn't know *exactly* where it was and unless they were talking legalities, he didn't really care. I've told a few people that I can just see M being the type of neighbor to try to get us in some sort of trouble for not keeping OUR yard up to HIS exacting standards.
