freeways would be light as it was the weekend. But it was also Mother's Day, so folks were probably traveling to see Mama, and and folks were probably at the beach for the weekend, or maybe the week, possibly to celebrate a graduation, and were possibly heading home Sunday. The area I mentioned was the worst but there was heavy traffic through ALL of VA and parts of MD as well.
I've been to Chapel Hill now three times: once for Nephew's undergrad graduation, once to visit him while he was working in the area (that was the time I convinced Sis to not only go with me to a Home Free concert but to also pick me up at the airport, drive us to Charlotte, drive back to Greensboro, drive me all around and then drive me back to the airport <g>) and now this visit. It's fine but...I have no real desire to ever go back. OTOH, I would *definitely* love to go back to OBX and explore some more. I would like to see the wild horses at Corolla, the Wright Brothers Museum, the lighthouse at Cape Hattaras, Jockey Ridge park (there's a huge sand dune there you can climb for spectacular views), Okracoke Island and maybe Roanoke Island. Interestingly, there's not exactly a "close" airport; the best you can do is fly into Norfolk and make the 2.5 hour drive south. You would think that since Kitty Hawk is the freakin' birthplace of aviation that at least THEY would have a decent size airport <g>.
