I'm kind of "meh" on oatmeal and of course the kind I like best is the packaged Quaker instant oats with tons of sugar added. I decided to get a "box" (canister?) of Aldi's Millville steel cut oats and make overnight oats. They turned out fine but I'm not a fan of the rounder, chewier oats. The first bowl I had, I added some blueberry monkfruit sweetener which added neither a noticeable amount of "sweet" or a noticeable amount of blueberry flavor. The next two bowls, I added a touch of real maple syrup...better but still not great. That third bowl...it had sat out accidentally for over 24 hours, and I'd made it with a mix of water and almond milk. When I tasted it this morning, it tasted sour. I thought maybe it was the maple syrup--I rarely use real maple syrup (I'd bought a sampler pack from a small mom and pop store a while back mostly to support the small mom and pop store) and hadn't yet tried the "golden maple" flavor yet--but after Googling "can almond milk go bad" and finding out that yes, yes it can go bad, and it will turn sour when it does and then Googling "can you get sick from bad almond milk and finding out that yes, yes you can, I dumped the rest of the bowl in the garbage and am now sitting around waiting to see if those three bites will have an ill effect on me.
