Probably some (many) (all) of you are thinking "I wasn't GOING to try that..."
I'd never heard of this latest TikTok trend until this morning while watching the local news. Channel 8 does a morning show that's part news/weather and part entertainment; they aired a clip about the newest thing to go viral and then the two anchors (and one reporter) each tried a cup of the concoction. They all hated it, with one going so far as to immediately shove some leftover french toast into his mouth, followed by a gulp of coffee, to kill the taste. I Googled and read a few reviews...nobody seems to actually like the drink.
But I didn't let that deter me! I took Dad up to a local mechanic late this afternoon to pick up his car (he needed his front MacPherson struts replaced...whatever those are) and to thank me, we went to McDonald's afterwards and he treated me to dinner. I got some Dr. Pepper to go; when I got home, I poured a small amount into a glass and added a couple slices of pickle.
Ummm...
OK, I didn't *hate* it. I wish I could somehow describe the taste; it's no longer Dr. Pepper and no longer dill pickle but somewhere in between. The pickles give the pop an almost slimy mouthfeel, which wasn't the greatest, but I didn't gag like I was half expecting to. Interestingly enough, when you fish the pickles out of the emptied cup, they don't have even the faintest taste of Dr. Pepper.
So to sum it up...pickled Dr. Pepper isn't going to be my new drink order at Sonic (if we had a Sonic nearby; which we no longer do) but if somebody told me they'd give me $20 to chug a glass, I'd be able to do it. And then take myself to McDonald's and get myself something--anything--to get the taste/feel out of my mouth.
