the first since he passed away in December. I asked my sister if she wanted to get together - we always did - just to honor the day and be together, and she unloaded on me. So she's in her feels, and that's fine. She can do what she wants.

That doesn't leave ME in a good place, because I would like to be together on Sunday, but one cannot force other people to feel or want to do the same things.

The firsts are always tough. And different for different people - I know my mom and brothers have a hard time on my dad's birthday, but I don't live nearby and hadn't celebrated his birthday with him in over a decade when he passed. So while I think of him that day (and his twin brother, who passed 5 years later) I have a much harder time on the anniversary of his death.

Whatever you choose to do, just think of him and the good times. Lots and lots of hugs.

Other than that, I bought a 4 pack of my favorite summer beverages and at some point, I see myself sitting in my favorite Adirondak chair sipping a delicious adult beverage and contemplating life.

That sounds amazing.

On Tuesday, my mom and I head down to my niece's highschool graduation. you have to love the highschools in and around DC - they are SO BIG they have to hold their graduation ceremonies at Ampitheater's and basketball stadiums. I think this year we're heading to George Mason. 2 years ago we were at a concert venue for my nephew's graduation. His class was over 1,000. Niece's is around 700, so it will be "short."

my entire HIGH SCHOOL was a little over 800 kids and that was for TWO TOWNS!!!!

The high schools here all graduate at a casino theater - one of the stipulations when the casino was building their big hotel/theater was that they had to allow the schools to graduate there. Before that, they'd have to go out of county to a place a minimum of half an hour away to graduate (and usually further). When a new high school was built and was opening for the 20-21 school year, and the casino wasn't available because of COVID, they held all the 2021 graduations at the new school's football stadium. So of course there were horrible thunderstorms and it was a cluster***** all week (there are 13 high schools - a 14th opens next year - and of them only one or two others held them at their school stadiums instead).

I don't even know how many students are in each class, but they have 3 graduations a day, each scheduled to be about 3 hours long. My hometown had two high schools (it's now I think 6, the city schools merged with the county so it's one big system now). There were less than 300 kids in my class, though it was the smallest class at the school (around 1100 total) and we had ours in the auditorium/theater attached to the school.

It's crazy sometimes when I think about how populated my county is - more people live here than the entire country of Iceland.
