To say that she beat it up, maintenance aside, would be an understatement. She had all her checks and services done, so the water pump quitting was a shock.

She bought the car so she could go "car camping" when she went climbing. She drove it like a truck/tank. Driving off road through not quite wide enough clearings. Scrapes and such, the car is definitely not showroom ready. Right now, it doesn't run, so it's scrap or a mechanic's home project.

I'm hoping that I can get my Toyota dealer can make a deal with the other dealership three hours away.

I'm glad you only had a minor cost for a simple repair. $12K is new-to-me car territory no matter how old the car is...unless it has an end-to-end warranty so it costs you nothing. Continued happy rolling for you and yours.

Power banks and back up power/power plans are very important. I have one perpetually plugged in back up power station. My Goal Zero solar panels have been scratched over the years. Not sure if they work. I should get a few for minor charging. My solar won't work if there's no signal from the electric company (for the safety of lineworkers). I haven't gotten batteries for the house or the new microinverters that would allow me to operate as a microgrid if we lost power.
