I picked my mom up Tuesday morning and we drove to my sister's house. We went out to dinner with my niece and her boyfriend on Tuesday night after we skipped over to my sister's new house.
she and her husband are getting a divorce. It's been in the works for 3 years, but due to where they live, if you have kids under 18 you have to wait 2 years to file. They sold their house after being on the market for only 5 days (!!!!) and they made a LOT of money. She has found a place to rent for the next year, and it's adorable. It's a great place for her to be while she decides what and where she wants to do going forward.
Wednesday afternoon was the graduation. We took a ton of pictures of her in front of her Big Graduation Sign and the ceremony only took 2 hours. 600+ kids crossed that stage in 2 hours!! We all went out to dinner (a group of 10 of us) afterwards and it was a really nice time.
Yesterday Mom and I hit the road around 6:30am and headed home. It was a damn good thing we left early because there was a LOT of traffic and construction.
while crossing the GWB, I was sliding over to the far right lane so I could get onto Riverside/West Side Highway and there was a traffic cop RIGHT next to me and I was trying to give him room to get in front of me, but he wouldn't, so I pressed the gas to get in front of him, and slapped on my turn signal, albeit a bit early. the instant I get 1 car length in front of him, ON GO THE LIGHTS AND SIRENS. Son of a.....I look in my rear view mirror and...HE IS CLOSING TRAFFIC ON THE BRIDGE RIGHT BEHIND ME! Mom and I slipped right through and went on our way.
a last minute decision to get off the highway early ALSO ended up in our favor because right over the hill from where we exited the highway....was just a wall of traffic due to tree trimming and mowing.
so door to door from sister's house to Mom's house was almost exactly 6 hours. That includes 2 stops to pee and a 45 minute wait on the approach to the GWB. not bad, not bad at all.
