It was winter and he went out to get a start on defrosting his windshield or something. He got extremely lucky...a) it didn't kill his battery and b) the doors weren't locked so anyone could've taken his car, but our neighborhood is about as safe as a neighborhood in America can be and his car was still there in the morning.
