Now I have to ask...is your dad a Ford man or a Chevy man? My dad is Chevrolet all the way. For about 15 years or so, he owned a few different Chevy Novas and loved them all. The first car I ever drove was a Chevy Nova, poop brown, rusting away. It was reliable but not exactly stylish <g>. In Dad's defense, he's driven a few Fords and every single one of them was prone to needing repairs and wound up being undriveable long before they should've been, despite Dad taking excellent care of them (he always takes good care of his vehicles).
Actually, Dad's now "I hate everything out there and only want a good deal", which is why he's driven a Kia Soul for the last decade or so.
