minor leagues. His last name is eerily similar to mine--spelled a bit different and with one added letter but close enough that if I'm not paying a ton of attention, I hear his name in a broadcast and think someone's calling ME.
My last name is not common...there was a website a long while ago that listed the top 50,000 surnames in America and while I was shocked mine made the list, it's down in the 46,000s somewhere (my BIL's surname didn't even make the list; the rest of the family last names are common enough to all be in the top 500 or so). Which makes it weirder to hear this player's name said out loud. Also, I've never been able to find the family surname on any site explaining the meanings of last names. Part of me thinks a letter got dropped in my last name--I can find variations with a "l", a "d" and an "r"--but I've also run into a few folks I don't *think* I'm related to that have the exact same last name as mine, no "l", "d" or "r", so maybe not?
