Dream Scenario (2023) (Max, an A24 release) was a Charlie Kauffman-esque film starring his Adaptation star Nicholas Cage, produced (but not directed by) Ari Aster, who did Midsommar and Beau Is Afraid (and Hereditary which I haven't seen).
It was good. I'm usually not a fan of Cage's films, but lately, between this and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, he's been getting some good scripts.
He plays a professor who suddenly starts appearing in people's dreams, even people he doesn't know. And then the dreams start getting horrific.
It's like when Phoebe's mad at Ross for something he did in a dream taken to extremes.
Other recent films:
Joker (leaving Hulu this month): Not great, not horrible (not a huge superhero movie fan, nor their villains), only watched because I want to see Lady Gaga in Folie à Deux.
Freelance (Hulu): John Cena and Allison Brie in a rip off of The Lost City (which starred Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe and ripped off an 80s movie, but The Lost City was a lot more fun)
Willie and Me (Kanopy-free with your library card if your library participates). A German movie about a life long Willie Nelson fan who travels to Vegas for his final concert and has a lot of mishaps. I liked it, but it sort of felt like it was through the lens of what someone from the US would think a German thinks of a US more than a German's experience of it. It's more English than German.
Swiss Army Man (Max-A24 release). Paul Dano is stranded on an island when the magical corpse of Daniel Radcliffe arrives. It's hard to describe but worth watching.
Kinsey (AppleTV+ this month). I had never seen it despite always wanting to, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought. Liam Neeson is the title character, and it's about his research into the sexual habits of US Americans in the 40s (I think).
All of Me (Kanopy). Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin in a film from 1984? This should have been great! But it was a disaster. It had it's moments though.
