In reply to: As a frequent train rider myself, I find both of these women annoying… posted by Kitchop
First, nobody has the right to two seats, one to sit in and one to put their feet on. BUT, if one person is sitting in a quad of four seats with the double seats facing each other, it is obnoxious to sit down directly across from the woman who was already there, knee to knee, when she could have sat down catty corner (diagonally) across from her in that empty seat instead. However, when the second woman did sit directly across from the first woman, the first woman should not have put her feet anywhere near the second woman.

YES! Tik Tok woman didn't *have" to sit where she did, and as such, she could've easily moved if the older woman persisted in annoying her.

IMO, there was no assault, no reason to call the police, no reason to put either woman off the train. They were both obnoxious, inconsiderate and stubborn. And I can’t help wondering weather the second woman was just looking to set up a situation that she could make a tik tok of.

And THIS x 1000. Dad and I were discussing this story--he's constantly fascinated by the behavior of others--and I told him it could've easily been the other way around. Older woman could've gone on social media saying she'd been on the train, sitting in her seat after a long day, maybe "needing" to sit exactly where she was sitting due to motion sickness issues or back issues or whatever. And then along comes a young woman who just *had* to sit directly in front of her, taking up space the older woman needed to stretch out her legs after a long, tiring day of whatever. And then when the older woman said she was going to stretch out her legs, younger woman whipped out her phone and raised a ruckus, demanding the cops escort the older lady off the train. All that despite the older woman being "perfectly calm and nice" to the younger woman, even offering her some of her crackers. Then everyone on social media would've been sympathizing with the older woman and calling the younger woman an "entitled Gen Z brat".

We don't know the older woman's side of the story. And we don't know what she was doing before the younger woman took out her phone to record everything. I said in my initial reply that YES, the older woman was incredibly wrong to put her feet on a stranger. That's where she lost my sympathy. But the Tik Tok user doesn't exactly come off as 100% sympathetic here either, and I will *never* understand people's need to literally cry on social media about whatever upset them.
