with the plan we have through them and have promised a "newer, more up-to-date" package, aka "more expensive". According to the letter, it will only be just under $1 more per month, and we're gaining 25 channels...at least three of which I *know* we already receive and none of which I'm particularly interested in. We will be losing four channels...Dad hardly ever watches TV and most of what he watches is on one of two channels. So of course we're losing one of those two channels (Turner Classic Movies). For the record, the other channel is Heroes and Icons; he likes to watch Black Sheep Squadron and occasionally Tour of Duty on Saturday nights, and sometimes he'll watch one of the Treks (the channel shows the first four series every night but Saturday, from 8:00 PM-1:00 AM).
The letter assures me I don't have to do anything, and there will be no need to replace our current equipment...I'm waiting to see if that will be true. We're grandfathered in from the Time Warner Cable days and both cable boxes are TWC boxes.
And yes...we still have cable, and pay a stupid amount for it. We have cable partly because Dad and I both like to flip through channels, partly because we still have older TVs that aren't "smart" in any way and partly because until recently, there was no other option for viewing local pro sports teams. Recently, Fubo picked up Bally Sports Ohio, which would mean I could watch the Guardians and Cavs live...but they don't have the "Warner Bros Discover" package, meaning no TNT, TBS, CNN or a few other channels. And when I want to watch TV and there's nothing else on, I watch Supernatural on TNT and Big Bang Theory reruns on TBS.
*sigh*...it will never happen but I wish there's be some kind of streaming service that lets you pick the exact channels you want, a la carte (no stupid bundles that have 12 of the 15 channels you want, forcing you to buy two more bundles).
