Lies and Weddings, by Kevin Kwan. Kevin wrote the "Crazy Rich Asians" trilogy, which I loved and have reread a few times. His next stand alone novel was just okay. However, "Lies and Weddings" was GREAT!!! Really reminded me of the humor and deliciousness of CRA. Here's an Amazon link for description:
One of Our Kind, by Nicola Yoon. I previously read a YA novel ("Blackout") that Nicola contributed to and really liked her writing style. I am currently reading "One of Our Kind" and so am giving it a half recommendation because I haven't finished it yet. I really like it a lot so far. It seems like an updated version of the Stepford Wives, but set in an exclusive all Black community. Amazon Link for a better description:
DO NOT READ: The Guest, by Emma Cline. Thank God I got this out of the library and didn't pay $ for it. My daughter had loved another one of EC's novels and so I thought I'd give "The Guest" a shot. The description sounded like something I would like. I can't stress enough how BAD this book is. The protagonist is just a horrible horrible person. In all ways. The whole time I was reading this book I was nervous and waiting for something bad to happen (and many things did). And then the ending was just.....nothing. Like I would have thrown the book against the wall, but it was a borrowed book on my Kindle, lol. Amazon Link if you dare:
