She went from "I'm probably not going to get anything" to "let me get a shopping basket for these few items" to "let me rest my basket on the grocery cart you're using to haul all your goodies--it's getting heavy!" 😁
This is my second time at this store and it was another resounding success. Not gonna list everything I got but...I got a LOT, including individual size bags of different flavors of chips for only 19 cents, a 12 pack of Ferrero Rocher chocolates for $1.50, a couple boxes of cereal (including peach mango Cheerios) for $1.60 each, a couple cans of fancy soup for 60 cents each, more cans of sparkling water for 40 cents each, plus some much needed Listerine mouthwash (the smaller bottle--$2.20) and face wash. This place scratches all my shopping "itches"; I love finding either stuff I love or stuff I've never heard of and want to try, for really good prices, though of course you have to be careful of the expiration date. I saw...something, I can't remember...that I really wanted but the expiration date was July of LAST year. That's a bit too risky for me. Auntie got some biscuit mix that was about a month past the "best by" date; I told her it would likely be fine, and one time I made a cake with a mix that was 3 full years past its "best by" date and it was absolutely fine.
Afterwards, we went to another small grocery store that carries a brand of red pepper relish my aunt likes. It was a little shocking how much the prices were there <g>; needless to say, neither of us bought that much at that store. I got a loaf of homemade herb bread off the clearance rack, plus a couple packets of gravy mix for Dad and a bottle of birch beer that was about half what it usually is at other stores, and that was it. From there we went to a new (to us) restaurant, The Cutting Board, just outside of the town we were grocery shopping in. It was...OK. My battered haddock was actually really good, as was the homemade tartar sauce, but the fries were meh and the coleslaw not good at all. My aunt liked her breaded chicken sandwich quite a bit and lamented not having room for some bread pudding. We both appreciated the fact that the soft drinks were only $2; most places around here, they're up to $3 or more. I wouldn't NOT go back but neither will I be anxious to go back any time soon.
